The East Mountain Rodeo Association is dedicated to preserving and educating the community about the rich western heritage, principles, and ranching practices that played a vital role in settling the New Mexico Territory. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2020, we strive to honor these traditions through events and initiatives that celebrate our history and culture. Proceeds from our events support organizations and groups that align with our mission, ensuring the legacy of western values and practices continues for future generations.
The EMRA was founded in 2020. After returning from Afghanistan, Chris Morgan and James Whelchel joined forces to put together an event to bring business back into the Estancia Valley of Central New Mexico after a summer ruined by COVID-19. Once they recruited Andy Demarcus, William Babers, and Derek Tucker, they established the newest Working Ranch Cowboy Association sanctioned Ranch Rodeo. Deciding to forgo the metro area of Albuquerque, they decided to keep the rodeo in the Estancia Valley where they call home.
